Academy Charter High School is a four-year public high school located in Lake Como, New Jersey, United States that operates independently of the local school district as a charter school authorized by the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Education. The school serves residents of Allenhurst, Asbury Park, Neptune, Avon-by-the-Sea, Belmar, Bradley Beach, Deal, Interlaken and Lake Como. Students are accepted at the school on a lottery basis with seats in the incoming freshman class allocated in proportion to the population of each of the participating communities; unfilled seats are then offered to residents of other communities.[2]
Academy Charter High School opened in September 1998, and had its charter renewed in December 2006 for another five-year term. Maximum enrollment authorized by the state is 220 students.[3]
As of the 2008-2009 school year, the school had an enrollment of 226 students and 18.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.6.[1] Edited By: Christian Lopez
The 2008 boys basketball team won the Central, Group I state sectional championship with a 62-55 win over Asbury Park High School in the tournament final. They are the division champions of that region[4] The win was the team's first ever sectional title and came in their first title game.[5]
